Review: MAC Brave Red lipstick - Pictures, Swatches and FOTD

Hello Everyone,

Hope you all are happy and healthy.

April is almost over, just unbelievable how fast time flies, and we are in the middle of hot & scorching summers and already praying for monsoons to arrive soon, ain't we? Well, I am, it's horribly hot & humid in Mumbai for past few days. Oh Rain God, please show some mercy on us.

Anyways, so coming to the post. I visited MAC Store a few days back for giving back some stuff for back to MAC. I wanted to buy a good pink shade, but, ended up picking up a red lipstick called Brave Red ( as I already have a few pink shades from MAC).

Brave Red is the Cremesheen formula, which their hottest selling and best formula in lipsticks. Brave Red is a  yellow red with a little bit of sheen. It is comparatively a muted red than other brighter reds like Russian Red or MAC Red, and it's a very wearable shade of red.

The pigmentation is decent, and you can build up to the desired intensity by apply a few coats more. But, to me it gives me full intensity as in the tube in just 2 coats.

It lasts also decently well, but, doesn't survive a meal. I wore it to a dinner party and faded after the meal, so I had to re-apply. But, when wore it the whole day for testing, it lasted a good 4+ hours after which it started fading into a stain. The longevity kinda of disappointed me because I was comparing with other Reds like Russian Red or MAC Red, but, considering the formula, it did a very good job as cremesheen formula are creamier and are moisturizing. But, when wore with my MAC Kiss Me Quick lipliner, it survived even the full lunch meal and remained as it is for about 6 hours after which it started fading into a stain.

It has the standard vanilla scent like other MAC lipsticks and  comes in regular black bullet packaging, which I adore.

Price: INR 990/-

Overall, I like that it's such a wearable red shade, great for those who want to start with red lispticks or are scared of pulling off a full fledged red lipstick. I would say I am liking this shade but not loving it, especially  when I compare it with my other reds. But, I am happy to have it in my stash as I love red lipsticks.

Here are a few pictures, swatches and a look I created using this lipstick to show how it looks on my NC40ish skin:

I hope you all found the review helpful and liked the shade on me. Do let me know which is your favorite red lipstick?

Have a lovely week ahead.

Review: Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation

Hello Everyone,

Hope you all are happy and healthy.

I have been using Chanel Perfection Lumière Foundation for a while now. Actually I am alternating between this and Lancôme Teint Idol Ultra depending upon the mood.

PERFECTION LUMIÈRE controls every detail of a perfect complexion to offer a tailor-made result.

In a simple step, the skin-embracing texture becomes one with the face. It follows its every movement, with adjustable coverage.

The results:

Multi-faceted long-lasting wear for a matte finish, radiance and color thanks to the Perfect Skin Affinity complex. It ensures a second-skin effect and perfect hold for 15 hours.

Perfect correction of all imperfections and optimal radiance that stays true all day long, provided by the patented Perfect Light Control Complex:
- redness and dark spots: -52%,
- complexion evenness: +65%,
- complexion radiance: +84%.

6 easy-to-wear shades suit Asian skin perfectly, with a no-makeup sensation.

With PERFECTION LUMIÈRE, perfection has never been so simple.

If you are an oily skin babe like me, then this foundation is for you. This foundation gives a flawless matte finish without making it look garish or cakey. This actually looks radiant and looks like second skin. This foundation sets really well on it's own. You can skip the powder over this foundation. I, however, powder my skin in the T-Zone. My skin gets extremely oily during summers and especially in Mumbai, it gets even worse. This foundation dries & sets pretty quickly, hence, one needs to be fast with blending it out. As this foundations dries to give a matte finish, so those with dry skin should skip this foundation. Also, if you have any dry areas on your face, you will have to exfoliate and moisturize your face really well before using this foundation, otherwise, this foundation will emphasis those patches and would not give an even finish.

The foundation has medium to full coverage, covers my acne scars and discoloration on the chin extremely  well. If I feel the need of extra coverage I dot a little bit extra & blend by just patting my ring finger. For a full coverage I prefer to pin point conceal my scars using the heavy duty MAC Studio Finish concealer using a Sigma E05 brush rather than packing a whole lot of foundation on my face to look cakey. If you have a naturally flawless skin without any scars and discoloration, you will need a very tiny amount get a perfect radiant matte finish. I dot about half a pump on my cheeks, forehead, nose (tiny bit, because of redness on my nose) and chin and blend it out.

As claimed by the company, it's a long wearing foundation, which this foundation actually is. This stays on me the whole day without moving or fading over the day. It comes with SPF 10, which is again a plus point. But, you may have to be careful if you are getting photographed at night. I used it for an evening event and tried taking a few pictures myself, it did gave a bit of white cast. Or it could be a wrong technic of using flash. I don't really know, because during the day time, I have taken pictures (including the one's below) with flash without this foundation giving any white cast.

It comes in 6 different shades suitable for Asian skin. For some reasons unknown to me, the shade which  I am matched with is not visible on the Chanel's website. The SA at the Chanel Store at Palladium Mall matched me with shade #24 Beige Ambre. If compared with my Nars Sheer Glow foundation in Stromboli, this shade is bit darker and more yellow. But, during this season I do get tanned a bit so shade is not a problem. And otherwise also, this foundation blends very well into my skin  to give a second skin effect, so a little bit of darker shade doesn't give me a Zombie look. I didn't like the shade range, especially for those with darker  & deep skin colors, there are no options.

I tweeted last week that this foundation bottle survived a major fall. Yes, I am talking about the sturdy frosted glass bottle. It just slipped off from my hands and fell on the floor from about 3.5 feet height and nothing, believe me, nothing happened to the bottle. In fact the pictures of the bottle below are taken after that fall. It comes with a pump dispenser which is very cute and dispenses just the right amount of foundation The pump is very smooth to operate and hence very easy to control the quantity.

Price: INR 2700 only for 30 ml of the product. An expensive foundation, but, its worth the money if you get your shade matched.

Overall, a great foundation which holds good on all the claims made by the company. Great for oily skin babes but be careful if you have dry patches. I wish, this foundation had a better shade range, especially for those with darker & deeper skin.

Here are a few pictures of the bottle and an FOTD wearing this foundation. Please note that in the FOTD picture below, I have concealed my acne scars using MAC Studio Finish Concealer, you can still notice how beautifully covered the redness on my nose and the discoloration on my chin.

I hope you all found the review helpful. Have you used this foundation or any other foundation from Chanel? Which is your favorite foundation for summers, suitable for oily skin and Mumbai's hot & humid climate.

Have a lovely week ahead and a great weekend.

Lots of love

Review: Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimer Ultra Lipgloss #106 Myriade

Hello Everyone

Hope you all are happy and healthy.

A long-lasting, ultra-gloss look; intense colours and a perfect finish. The gel texture, fluid yet substantial, is easy to apply, giving a perfectly even finish. The smooth formula keeps your lips comfortable.

A gelling agent of mineral origin supplies fluidity and body. Esters ensure glide-on application and optimum evenness of the gloss. They provide smoothness and emollience. Syrupy organic polymers contribute to the lasting quality of the gloss.

Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimers live up to each and every claim made by the company. The gel like formula is extremely glossy and juicy, but not sticky like MAC Lipsglasses. The formula is almost like a thick fluid and being a gloss its LONG WEARING. The texture is very smooth and the product just glides on my lips. They come in ton of different shades. I have two as of now, Jalousie and Myriade, the later one I am reviewing today.

Myriade is the prettiest lip gloss that I have in my collection. Myriade is a sheer cherry red with a load of multi-color glitter in it. The glitter gives my lip a multi-dimensional effect and looks amazingly pretty. In the absence of glitter, this shade would have been just a flat cherry red. The glitter makes this lip gloss very unique.

The emollients in the lipgloss moisturize my lips through out the day, even if I have not moisturized them with a balm before applying the product. When I say through out the day, I mean it. This lip gloss last a long time on my lips. However, this particular shade starts fading in about 4+ hours, which is decent for a gloss. The glitter and the moisturizer stays for the whole day, even after a full lunch meal. The lipsgloss is loaded with glitter which is kinda chunky and many of you may not like this gloss for the overload of glitter, but to me, glitter is what makes this lipsgloss prettier and unique, as I said earlier. Also, the beauty of these chunks of glitter is that the glitter particles do not settle in the fine lines of my lips. Actually neither the glitter not the gloss itself settle in fine lines of my lips. With this lipgloss on, my lips look much smoother and even.

I wear this Glossimer on its own and with MAC Lipliner in cherry (love this lip combo & love wearing it this way). This lipgloss can also be used to bring shine to an otherwise matte red lipstick, however, I have to still try this lipgloss with a lipstick. I think, it will pair best with Ruby Woo. I will try this combo and share with you all soon.

Price: INR 1700/- for 5.5 gms. I know this a bomb for a lipgloss, but, for this beautiful shade and quality, I do not mind splurging this high.

Overall, if you are ready to splurge a bomb on a lipgloss, this is a prettiest thing to have in your stash. Go for it, you will not be disappointed. Skip it if you don't like glitter in your lip products.

Enough of blabbering, here are pictures & swatches of this lovely Glossimer and me wearing this on its own and with MAC lip liner in Cherry:

I hope you found the review helpful and liked the Glossimer and the gloss on me.

Have you tried Chanel Glossimers? Which is your favourite shade, do share with me. I would love to explore these further.

Have a lovely weekend.

Review: Nars Blush in Lovejoy - for a sun kissed tanned look

Hello Everyone

Hope you all are happy and healthy.

I am in love with Nars blushes for their amazingly smooth & buttery texture, pigmentation, longevity and  not to mention their provoking names, love everything about them. By now I have collected quite a few Nars Blushes. I have already reviewed Orgasm, Deep Throat, Gina, SinTorrid and Desire powder blushes and one cream blush in Cactus Flower. I wish to own all of them. They are so so so amazing. Worth every penny.

I have another marvel from Nars for you today called Lovejoy. Described by Nars as Shimmering Bronzed Rose which is very right. It's a rosey brown shade with subdued golden shimmer. It gives my a lovely tanned glow, exactly how I look if I have spend sometime in hot sun, a bit rosey tan. Love it. The shimmer is very subdued and doesn't make you look like a disco ball. It does look scary & horrible brown in the pan, but, looks gorgeous when applied on cheeks. Looks very natural and flattering. Great everyday blush for summers.

Like all other Nars blushes, it wins my heart in all departments, pigmentation, color pay off, longevity, texture, everything about it is fabulous. Just a light tap in the pan and you get the right shade.

I can see this blush suiting a lot of skintones, but, it will be most flattering on those with medium to dark skintones. Highly recommended for Indian beauties with warmer skintone.

Price: USD 29.00 for 4.8 gms, which is great as a little goes a long way.

I don't want to blabber much about the product. See the pictures & swatches and decide for yourself. Overall, it's a lovely blush which gives you a sun kissed tanned look without making you look sun burnt or anything like that. Great for duskier beauties, highly recommended for Indian beauties with warm skintone.

Here are are few pictures, swatches and me wearing this lovely blush (I am around NC40 in MAC foundations):

I hope you found the review helpful and liked the blush on me. Have you tried such tan color blushes? Which is you favorite? Do let me know in the comments below.

Have a lovely week ahead.

Review: MAC Lipstick in Pink Pigeon from the Strength Collection

Hello Everyone

Hope you all are happy and healthy.

First of all thank you so much for an overwhelming response to my 2nd Anniversary Giveaway. If you haven't entered my yet enter here.

I also have a blog sale running. If you haven't seen it yet, click here

MAC lipstick in Pink Pigeon is a re-promote. Earlier it was launched with Iris Apfel Collection and now launched again the with Strength Collection. Pink Pigeon is a bright fuchsia pink with slight violet undertones. It reminds of MAC Pro lipstick in Show Orchid, except that Show Orchid has a more prominent violet sheen to it (that reminds, me I have to still review it). I really loved the Pink Pigeon and it so apt for the spring/ summer season.

Pink Pigeon is a matte finish lipstick. I always loath matte lipstick as they drying and one needs to be extra careful with the state of lips, moisturizing them with a luscious lip balm is a must. However, formula of this lipstick is not very dry, as in, it doesn't tug or drag on lips (like MAC Ruby Woo). It's quite smooth and also has a very tiny bit of shine, which last for say an hour (could be less, but not more). But, the formula is not as smooth & buttery and easy to work with like MAC Russian Red. I feel that the texture has little bit of powderyness (this not noticeable in the swatch, but when you apply it on lips, you will know what I mean).

This has full blown out pigmentation. Just one swipe and you get the full coverage.

In the department of longevity, this wins my heart. I wore to a dinner with a little bit of gloss, it didn't fade at all. Even after the full meal dinner, it was as fresh as newly applied. I also liked that it did not bleed, even with a lipgloss on top. So, a winner in this department.

Overall, I really loved the shade and its performance in terms of longevity, but the formula could have been better, especially when MAC Cosmetics has amazing matte lipsticks in their permanent line.

Here are pictures, swatches and me wearing this lovely lipstick:

L to R: Pink Pigeon, Show Orchid, Girl About Town

A dear friend Rashmi of Indyabeauty suggested me try this lipstick with MAC Lipliner in Cherry. As the lipstick has full coverage, the effect of lipliner get nullified. But, still it looks different when worn own its own without any lipliner. So judge for yourself, how it looks with MAC Lipliner in Cherry.

I also, tried it as a stain with my Kiehl's Mango lipbalm, which I liked the most.

I hope you all found the review helpful and liked the lipstick on me. What have you bought from the Strength Collection? Which is you favorite product?

Have a lovely week ahead.

Fresh and colorful, yet wearable purple eye make-up look for Spring/ Summer

Hello Everyone

Hope you all are happy and healthy.

I have my first ever giveaway going on to Thank one and all who have supported the blog for past two years. Click here to enter the giveaway.

I have also put up some really cool products on sale. They are from brands like Elizabeth Arden, MAC Cosmetics, Revlon, Maybelline, etc. Click here for my Blog Sale.

So, coming to this post. Now that the warm climate is here (Mumbai is always warm!) and lot of colorful looks for Spring/ Summer are trending in the blogosphere, I also decided to do a colorful look inspired by vibrant colors of the season. One thing which I wanted to ensure was, to do a look which is wearable by most of the people of different ethnicity, color and age group and which is suitable for lot more occasions and not limited to night outs or parties. So, decide for yourself where you would want to wear this look.

I have used a very neutral shade on lids while used a lot of colors in the crease and lower lash line. Believe me, this makes the look a lot more wearable, yet looks very vibrant and colorful.

Here are the exact products I used to create this look and a step wise tutorial:

Products Used:
Face:
  • MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NW35 for under eye dark circles
  • Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation #24 Beige Amber
  • MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NC42 for blemishes
  • Dior Skin Nude Powder #40
  • Nars Blush in Orgasm
  • Nars Bronzer in Laguna
  • Nars Highlighter in Albatross
Eyes:
  • MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre
  • MAC Eyeshadows - Shroom, Texture, Vex, Satellite Dreams, Shocoholic, Indian Ink (Pro) & Brun (for brows)
  • Chanel Soft Touch Eyeshadow Safari
  • MAC Clear Brow Gel
  • Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner pencils in Ransom and Zero
  • Clinique Gel eyeliner in True Black
  • Maybelline Volume Express The Falsies Mascara
Lips:
  • Combo of MAC Lipglasses in Lychee Luxe and Pink Poodle

Step wise tutorial to get the look:
  • Step 1: Start with priming your lids with Soft Ochre Paint Pot
  • Step 2: Apply MAC eyeshadow in Shroom in the inner third of the lid and Chanel Safari on the rest of the lid using a flat stiff shader brush like Sigma E55 or MAC 239.

  • Step 3: Combine Satellite Dreams and Shocogolic eyeshadows and apply in the crease using MAC 224 brush.

  • Step 4: Apply Indian Ink in the outer V and blend using MAC 217 brush

  • Step 5: Apply Texture eyeshadow on the browbone using MAC 224 brush

  • Step 6: Trace Ransom eyepencil under the outer two third of the lower lash line and blend it using MAC Shocoholic and Satellite Dreams eyeshadows and darken the outer corner with Indian Ink.

  • Step 7: Mix Shroom and Vex eyeshadows and apply under the highest point of your brows and in the tear duct (I forgot to apply in e/s tear duct at this point, applied it after the whole look was complete. But, you should apply it now).

  • Step 8: Apply eyepencil in Zero in the water lines and gel liner on the upper lash line. Finish the look with Maybelline Volume Express The Falsies Mascara to complete the look. Also, I filled up my brows using Brun eyeshadow and fixed them with MAC Clear Brow Gel.

Here are some more pictures of the whole look:

I hope you all liked the look. Do share your pictures if you recreate the look.

Have lovely week ahead.
