MAC Paint Pots - Review, Pictures, Swatches

Hello Everyone,

Hope you all are having a great weekend and are happy and healthy.

I use Paint Pots a lot be it as an all over base or as a base for lid colour and you all must have seen me wearing MAC Paint Pots as base for eye-shadows in a lot of posts. They come in a 9 different shades and I have around 6 of them and I use them as frequently as daily. The price in India is INR 1100/-, pricey but worth the money. They will last forever.

The thoughts are purely based on my experience with the products and my review is not influenced by anybody by whatsoever means.

M.A.C. Paint Pots (as MAC defines):

A highly pigmented eye colour that goes on creamy but dries to an intense, vibrant finish. Long-wearing, colourfast. Creates seamless coverage without weight or caking. Blends smoothly over the lids. Cream-based, can be mixed with M·A·C shadows and liners.

My thoughts on Paint Pots:
I just love paint pots as they make eye-shadows pop as compared to without the base. The neutral ones (painterly) can be used as an all over base to avoid creasing & fading of shadows, the darker ones (constructivist, artifact & blackground) can be used to create smoky eyes while others (coral crepe, fresco rose, artifact) are great as a base for eye-shadows for ‘that’ pop of colour.

P: Permanent, LE: Limited Edition

Painterly (P): Matt finish neutral beige shade. Great as all over base.

Fresco Rose (LE): I don’t know why this is a LE paint pot when they don’t have any shade in the permanent line closer to this shade. It’s a frost pink shade which I always use underneath pink eye-shadows.

Coral Crepe (LE): Again a LE paint pot. It’s a beautiful coral shade with a nice and very very light golden sheen.

Rubenesque (P): Beautiful peach shade with a lot of gold frost in it. Great as a base underneath coral & golden eye-shadows. Not a dupe, but can be a substitute for Coral Crepe paint pot.

Artifact (LE): Again a limited edition shade which is a beautiful burgundy colour with plum undertones. Great as a base for plum & red toned eye-shadows.

Constructivist (P): A metallic dark brown shade, great for as a base for brown/ bronze shades and for creating smoky eyes.

Blackground (P): A dark grey (almost black) shade with multi-colour pearls. Absolutely beautiful underneath taupe and grey shades. Great for creating smoky eyes.

Word of caution:
The paint pots can dry out if not stored properly. As advised the SA at the MAC store it should be stored upside down and properly closed.

  1. :) I really like Delft! That works amazing just by itself, under a green e/s or a blue e/s. It's very versatile.

  2. Wow! You have quite a collection...I have rubenesque and ground work

  3. @ Scarlett: Yeah, Delft is a beautiful shade. Sad it's LE. I have seen it's sample many times at MAC stores but they always say it's LE.
Mehak (P&B): Rubensque is my favorite. It's a lovely shade.

  4. alright i am going to buy one mac paint pot every month..this is it !!!

and eesha i so loved painterly
by the way Constructivist looks like expensive pink some where?

  5. sorry i got it wrong its Rubensque i believe

  6. @ Anamika: Yeah Paint Pots are worth having in the makeup kit. Rubenesque is quite similar to EP. If worn underneath EP, EP looks more peachy/ golden than pink. Rubensque is a must have. Superb shade.

  7. My one and only PP is Groundwork...But planning to get Rubenesque also soon. Painterly will be too light for my eyelids

  8. @ G.G.G.: Rubensque is a must have PP. Go get it girl. :)
